The Banbury Old Town Association may embrace the ‘olde world’ charms and architectural details of days gone by – but they’re not afraid of trying something new. And that’s just what they did today (July 2, 2016) with Street Trading Saturday.
Of course, they are the hosts of the twice yearly Old Town Party – both Spring and Summer – but this was a chance for the shops in the Old Town Area to “turn the shops inside out” as Modern Parlance photographer, dungeekin, put it. There were:
- baked goods (it would not be a Banbury event without baked goods),
- demonstrations (watercolour essentially upside-down and from behind while standing amidst a crowd),
- and bright, colourful accessories and gifts (seriously – the cutest barrettes ever. If only my hair would hold them!)
The weather was a bit back and forth but when the sun was out, it was out! And it takes more than a little rain to dampen these independent traders. Here’s hoping that the enthusiasm of those who took part and those who came, shopped and ate will encourage more traders to give it a go next year.
As always, the pictures in our galleries appear courtesy of and belong to dungeekin. Want to see a bigger version of a particular pic? Just click on it and you’ll be taken to flickr page for that pic. You can also check out other albums in the Banbury collections.
